Alex Levitsky is an award-winning registered architect and professional
planner who directs operations of the Northern Division of Global Sports
& Tennis Design Group llc.
Since the Global Consult Group’s team started Global Sports & Tennis Design
Group in February 2000, Alex has worked on the design of hundreds of tennis
courts including: stadium courts, field courts, training batteries, hard and
soft courts, indoor and outdoor courts. Alex has designed facilities with
clubhouses, indoor tennis buildings, tournament facilities, other sports fields,
and grandstands. Clients have included club owners, universities, schools,
resorts, counties and municipalities, other engineers and architects, and
private residents.
In the 1990’s, Alex worked with Sheldon Westervelt on the
design of over 30 sports facilities. His work with Global Consult Group included
projects in 10 states and 5 foreign countries. Many of these projects were award
winners.
Before focusing on the design of sports and tennis facilities, Alex was a design
manager with Nadaskay/Kopelson Architects in Morristown, New Jersey. As
designer, a number of his building designs and development plans received design
awards from the AIA and other industry associations.
In addition, Alex has a substantial amount of experience working on
international design projects with professionals from many countries. In the
early 1980s, Alex co-authored (with David Dobereiner, RIBA) the master plan for
a university campus that was presented to the King of Nepal, and designed the
first medical training campuses in eastern and western Nepal. After completion,
these facilities won international awards for design excellence. In the early
1990’s, Alex supervised the design of the first post Cold War privately owned,
residential, townhouse project in Volgograd, Russia. The design was so well
received that the Ambassador of the United States presented the front door keys
of the units to each Russian family. Alex also participated in a land-use zoning
project for five cities in Russia. The city administrations of St. Petersburg
(for the Town of Pushkin) and Irkutsk presented him with awards for his
contribution to the project.
Recognition & Service:
Over the past 20 years of his practice, Alex’s projects have been recognized
more than 40 times for excellence in design and planning by local, state and
international organizations. Alex was awarded Distinguished Service Awards from
the United States Tennis Court & Track Builders Association (USTC&TBA – renamed
the American Sports Builders Association (ASBA)) in recognition of outstanding
services to the industry and its members. Alex currently serves as President of
the ASBA Professional Division and is a regular speaker at their annual
technical meetings.
Since accepting an invitation to join the USTA Technical Committee in January
2003, Alex has been serving on the Adopt-A-Court subcommittee and represents the
USTA on the Joint USTA/ASBA Editorial Board – the body responsible for “TENNIS
COURTS: A Construction and Maintenance Manual”, the internationally acclaimed
official technical manual covering all aspects of tennis court construction.
